Here it is, my SILVER SHINE CARDIGAN
The pattern is very good, easy to sew and fit perfectly. The smallest size given in the issue is 36, but i reduced it to 34 and reduced the length by about 10" (25cm). Thankfully, I AM short! Here is an original drawing:
Sewing the fabric though was tricky- it is kinda a net texture, so it gets tangled in everything, including the insides of my overlocker, which resulted is both of the top needles being broken during testing, so I went to my sewing machine and did all the work there.
I used wide zig-zag stitch to finish all the edges on the allowances. the hems are just folded in and stitched over. The good thing about the fabric is that you cannot see the seam at all. The bad thing about the fabric is that you can't see the seam AT ALL! So if you need to rip it- you are in a VERY BIG TROUBLE! So Everything had to be right from the first go. In hindsight , I am very pleased that I those this easy pattern for this fabric- anything with more details would be very difficult, if not disastrous!
Overall- not bad for a 3 hours work, including lunch break!
Holy cow you got that some quickly, and it really did turn out great. Good thing about getting everything right the first time as it really isn't fun trying to take out stitches on something like that!
ReplyDeleteI am quite surprised myself, considering that i blogged my previous post only around 4.30pm, went for lunch and managed to draft the pattern from the magazine, cut everything out, sew it and had it done for dinner, got my daughter to snap some shots and posted them and a new post on my blog before 8PM! WOW
DeleteIt's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI am very pleased myself- i have to admit, I see so much ways to wear this cardi- i am getting too excited! Hahaha
DeleteIt seems funny that just 5 hours before you thought the fabric might have been a mistake! The cardigan turned out great and looks to be a pretty versatile garment.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Allison. I couldn't be more delighted with the result! The fabric looks and wear fabulously in this style
DeleteIt's lovely. You are going to get through all your goals in no time if you keep this productivity speed up!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Suzie! There is a lot in the list, though and I seem to work in bursts of creativity, thinned by long apathetic breaks. But if I do it all by July, I will start a new challenge- called Another 12 in 2012 ))))
