Winter Mood Cardigan

I used a pattern from Burda Style January 2012 ( model 106) as an inspiration. Originally the fabric suggested was mohair, but it was hard to find (especially as I fabric-hunt mostly online), so my choice fell on this white pique wool blend. It frays absolutely beautifully, and I took advantage of this quality for the ruffles.

The ruffles are turned around a few times to add that cascading effect:

The original model suggested a belt, but I opted for a little invisible snap to hold it together, without a belt- I like how the cardigan's bodice flows down the body. using a belt just made it look somewhat cheap. (However, I have seen this jacket made in other types of fabrics and the belt can work too. just not in my version, I think).

I took a stroll to the local beach, but never made it- it was hard to walk on the sand in 5inch heels LOL!  And as it is winter outside my summer cardigan is to be called "In a Winter Mood " A full pattern review on PatternReview.com

    1. Hi Karin, nice to meet you too. Glad you liked the jacket- I had a 5 min photo shoot and felt awful- hope I can re-do it sometime, but I was just too impatient to show my first of 12 challenges off.

Now I hope I will get a chance to look through my stash of fabrics and see what I can do next. I am also planning to put together another list- 12 techniques to master in 2012.

  5. Wow, what a gorgeous cardigan - the frayed edges on the ruffles look great. And well done on ticking off your first goal!! That was fast! I've just finished a skirt but I won't be able to take photos of it until the weekend.
Great list of goals - cannot wait to see what you make and tick off next!

  6. Thanks Suzie for checking out my first challenge. I was so pleased to read your comment. The best thing about the challenge is that it can be stretched for a year- I am guilty of having big gaps between actual projects, where I am just too obsessed with online life, there is no time left for the real one LOL.
But seriously speaking, I am going to concentrate on my goals and also will have a good think of what other lists I can draft. Maybe "12 tutorials to showcase", how about that?
