It has finally happened- I am sewing again!!!!!!
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who were so supportive helping me get through the dry spell in sewing. Thank you! And- it worked in the most unexpected way.
It looks very retro at the back too- I am loving the shape, what do you call that in English again? Like something from the early 20th century… I think.

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who were so supportive helping me get through the dry spell in sewing. Thank you! And- it worked in the most unexpected way.
Oonabaloona advised me to cut my favourite fabric, and so I did. Here it is, a sheer crepe with a light velvety animal print. I have to admit, I was terrified to cut this piece for ages, two years to be exact. I was afraid it will be a nightmare to work with and also was not sure of the best pattern.
20 seconds of extreme insanity and I decided to make a so-often-mentioned-on-this-blog peplum top. My first attempt (THAT self-drafted pattern) was disappointing, and I was seriously considering ditching the whole idea, but I love this trend, and it would kill me not to try once more!
August Burda style magazine was staring at me for days, with a lovely yellow peplum top on the cover. And it won, I traced the pattern and cut the fabric. Two weeks later, I got up early and locked myself in my workshop- and voila!!!!
I cut size 34, omitted the sleeves and added a satin binding around the neckline- very cute detail, I think. The pattern was extremely easy to use, and I am quite happy with the shape.
pardon the visible bra- it is supposed to be nude, but I have been tanning like crasy recently, so it looks very pale on me! LOL! |
It looks very retro at the back too- I am loving the shape, what do you call that in English again? Like something from the early 20th century… I think.

Congratulations for getting past your dry spell!! Very pretty top, and that fabric is a gorgeous choice.
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteLooking stunning , darling.. great to see your creations again !
ReplyDeleteLovely! http://threadnoir.blogspot.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteLovely shape, especially from the side! I think it would look more chic with a cami underneath, but of course it's a matter of personal preference.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA- I have to blame my tan as this bra used to be matching my skin tone so well, you wouldn't even see it. Blame Mallorka, but, seriously, definitely with a cami )))))
ReplyDeleteThanks doll!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous top Juliette and you look wonderful in it - cami or no cami!!!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am not a big fan of animal prints, I love what you've done with this pattern! I like the sleeveless version and how the crepe fabric creates this beautiful airy shape! Also to defend the transparency of the fabric, I think you would look great with the black bustier underneath :)
ReplyDeleteGreat to see this made up. It's on my list too. Lovely top.
ReplyDeletethis would be a great opportunity to sew a bustier, woubn't it then`???? Thanks
ReplyDeleteyes, the pattern pleasantly surprised me actually
ReplyDeletehahaha! Merci!
ReplyDeleteIs the word you are looking for 'bustle'? I love this top, gutted I missed the august burda! :-(
ReplyDeleteYou can buy it from burdastyle.com
DeleteThis pattern is on my list too!! it's made up really well and looks lovely in the sheer fabric too!
ReplyDeleteThe pattern is fab
DeleteIt really works with this pattern- a pleasure to wear too!
ReplyDeleteSo did you draft your own pattern or just buy and modify one?
ReplyDeleteThis pattern is from August issue of Burda Style (08/2012-113). But you have to do some sort of fitting. More about the process on http://sewingandstyle.blogspot.ie/2012/08/the-making-of-peplum-top-pattern-review.html
